Newspaperarchive.com
A not-to-be-missed offer
One other historical newspaper archive warrants its own page in this write-up of mine...newspaperarchive.com
A lot of the content for Google News Archives comes from newspaperarchive.com which is a subscription service. I'm writing up only free services in this article, but I'm making an exception for newspaperarchive.com, which currently boasts 72 million pages of historical newspapers, and climbing fast.
Google News Archives will give you snippets from newspaperarchive.com content, but to see the actual page images, you need to be a subscriber. However, there are two options for free content to check out:
Free Special Collections: This is a good and varied collection of historical topics, like "Abraham Lincoln", "Martin Luther King", and "The Titanic". It's a good way to get familiar with their content.
Schools/Libraries Program: The site also makes its content available to schools and public libraries absolutely free of charge:
...Access NewspaperARCHIVE is a new program that gives public libraries and K-12 schools around the world FREE access to NewspaperARCHIVE.com's historical newspaper database.
If you ask me, this is an incredible offer, and not to be missed. If your school/library doesn't take advantage of it, then get 'em to sign up, quick.
By the way, NewspaperArchives also has a very cool collection of free-to-access Front Pages from history, including this amazing headline erroneously reporting Titanic's Passengers All Rescued.
There are pleny more resources on the next page!
